The Open Road...

We just got back from a very long road trip. 2276 was the final mileage. The destination was Lexington, Kentucky. The purpose was a wedding. The time frame was 4 days, with lunch date in Asheville, North Carolina on Sunday afternoon.

Everything went great. Savannah enjoyed her first road trip (I think). She mainly slept, sneaking up into an open lap when she could get away with it. Once we got to Lexington, I know she enjoyed playing with Nala and Sasha. She hadn't seen Nala since February! Savannah was also introduced to two kittens. Her first experience with the cat. She liked playing with them and only took one swat to the nose for getting too close.

The wedding event was nice. It took place on a 1,000+ acre horse farm called Gainesway Farms. The owner is a South African man named Graham J. Beck. He made his fortune in mining, and now dabbles in horse breeding, yacht making, and owns a huge winery. Needless to say the farm itself is remarkable, and their thoroughbreds are some of the finest in the world with yearlings selling at more than $5 Million. Yup, million. If they have the right parents and they look good, these horses can cost a pretty penny. Gainesway farms has one of the only three fillies to have won the Kentucky Derby. Along with her foals and the rest of the horse breeding, Gainesway is a Billion Dollar Company.

Our friends Josh and Tiff got married.
The wedding was casual, and the weather was perfect. Sara documented the afternoon while lawn games such as croquet and badminton were enjoyed and a jazzy bluegrass band played in the sun.

Lawn games and bike riding were enjoyed by all.

Sara, checking out mothers and foals.

Just one of the pastures...this one is only 87 acres.

A rare chance to actually wear a cowboy hat. Unfortunately, we did not get to ride the Thoroughbreds.

The happy couple riding off on a tandem.

Sara has a flare for geometric shapes and lines.

On the 21st floor in Lexington, at the reception.

Josh and Tiff...all dressed up for their reception.

Josh's shoes....purchased in Chilé.
A rare find.

And a final tribute to our friend Ryan, the Master Horticulturist at Gainseway Farms...

It is never a bad day on the scoots. Perhaps the best way to see the island, especially since Ding Darling opened it's doors to scooter ...
